The USAID Oceans and Fisheries Partnership (USAID Oceans) was a 5-year project initiated in May 2015 as a partnership between the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC). It was developed to respond to the devastating environmental, economic, and human impacts of illegal, unreported, and unregulated(IUU) fishing across Southeast Asia. USAID Oceans works to (1) strengthen regional cooperation and capacity to combat IUU fishing and conserve marine biodiversity,(2) expand use of eCDT systems to priority biodiversity areas,(3) strengthen the capacity of regional and national organizations to conserve biodiversity using an Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) and eCDT,(4) address human welfare concerns, including gender and labor across all program activities, and (5) engage the private sector to ensure sustainability, while advancing regional fisheries governance.
