<title>Fishing gears and methods in Southeast Asia: VI. Cambodia</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12067/600</link>
<description>Fishing gears and methods in Southeast Asia: VI. Cambodia
This compilation of the most important fishing gears and methods in use in Cambodia is the sixth volume in the Monograph Series, "Fishing Gears and Methods in Southeast Asia". The aim is for better understanding of the existence marine fishing gears and methods in the Cambodia, therefore with the initiative of SEAFDEC/Training Department conducted the study with a view to introduce the structure of gear and fishing techniques of the main fishing gears commonly used in Cambodia since 2003 in collaboration with the Fisheries Administration/Cambodia. The study was a part of ASEAN-SEAFDEC program on "Responsible Fisheries Technology and Practices" funded by Government of JAPAN through the trust fund program in fisheries.&#13;
	This volume contains description of 74 types of marine fishing gears presently employed in the marine fisheries of Cambodia. Fishing methods of tenth important groups namely surrounding nets, trawl nets, lift nets, falling gear, gill nets, traps, hook and lines, scoop nets, dredges and miscellaneous gears are also described. It is hoped that this book can serve as a useful reference for those who are interested in marine fisheries in Cambodia.

<description>Fishing gears and methods in Southeast Asia: V. Brunei Darussalam
This compilation of the most important fishing gears and methods commonly used in Brunei Darussalam is the fifth volume in the Monograph Series, "Fishing Gears and Methods in Southeast Asia" with the initiative of SEAFDEC/Training Department. The aim is for better understanding of the existence structure of marine fishing gears and fishing techniques in Brunei Darussalam. The survey was started in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries of Brunei Darussalam since 2004.The study was a part of ASEAN- SEAFDEC program on "Responsible Fisheries Technology and Practices" funded by Government of JAPAN through the trust fund program in fisheries. &#13;
&#13;
This volume contains description of 48 types of marine fishing gears presently employed in the marine fisheries of Brunei Darussalam. Fishing methods of tenth important groups namely surrounding nets, seine nets, trawls, lift nets, falling gears, gill nets, traps, scoop nets, hook and lines and miscellaneous gears are also described. It is hoped that this book can serve as a useful reference for those who are interested in marine fisheries in Brunei Darussalam.

<title>Fishing gear and methods in Southeast Asia: IV. Viet Nam</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12067/438</link>
<description>Fishing gear and methods in Southeast Asia: IV. Viet Nam
Vietnamese Fisheries has many favorable conditions for development due to the coastline of 3,260 km and abundant marine resources. The number of fishing boats increases ceaselessly and the types of fishing gears are diversified. The sizes and designs of fishing gears depend on fishing methods, boat sizes, conditions, fishing ground and the habits of fishermen in each region, so there are lots of different types. Therefore, it is necessary to design the Monograph of Fishing Gears and Methods to make know widely the structure of fishing gears with high fishing efficiency for common application. Also, the design of the Monograph produces management measures and limits the practices of destructive fishing gears and methods.&#13;
&#13;
The Ministry of Fisheries of Vietnam entrusted Nha Trang University of Fisheries and the Research Institute of Marine Products to carry out the subject "Designing Monograph of Fishing Gears in Vietnam" in 1997. However, this work has not fully reflected the types of fishing gears as well as fishing techniques.&#13;
&#13;
In order to contribute to the design of the overall picture of fishing gears and fishing techniques of the Southeast Asia, some experienced research staff form the Research Institute of Marine Fisheries implemented the surveys of fishing gears in coastal provinces, then processed data, designed monographs and finished the work on fishing gears and methods of Vietnam. The publication have used some designs of fishing gear in monograph of 1997 and it consists of 10 parts, each part shows fishing operation, characteristics and drawing of typical fishing gear samples of each group, such as trawl net, surrounding net, gill net, hook and line and others.&#13;
&#13;
In this volume, we are only able to present the samples of fishing gears which are most commonly used and have high fishing catch and economic efficiency of some key fisheries areas in Vietnam. With a view to reading easily, symbols written in the drawing are in accordance with the regional common regulations.&#13;
&#13;
Hopefully, the information in the publication will be scientific base and useful reference material for designers and uses of fishing gears in Vietnam and other countries in the region.&#13;
During the preparation, because of the restriction in some aspects, there are some shortcomings in this book. We are very pleased to receive your suggestions.

The fishing gear and methods in Thailand was surveyed in 1984 and published in 1986. A similar survey was conducted in Malaysia in 1987 and published in 1989 as the second volume. The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department continued this study for the Philippines again in 1998 to 1989. 204 designs and fishing methods were collected from 7 regions of the Philippines and they were confirmed and revised again by a fishing gear specialist of the Philippines in 1995 before publishing. This volume contains description of 175 types of marine fishing gear presently employed in the marine fisheries of the Philippines. Fishing methods of twelve important types of fishing gear are also described.&#13;
&#13;
With the initiative of SEAFDEC, this revised volume is being made to include marine and inland fishing gear and methods from eight (8) additional regions, namely; regions II, IV, V, VI, VIII, IX, X and   XI focussing on responsible fishing gear and methods. New and specific gear and methods in a particular area targeting a potential species are prioritized.&#13;
&#13;
A total of 756 designs of fishing gear and methods were dissected and screened for selection. The 133 selected drawings are inserted in the revised volume. Nomenclature for English and local names of the fishing gears are also added to indicate their countrywide distribution and utilization. It is hoped that this publication can serve as useful reference for those who are interested in the Philippines fisheries
