Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on Action Plan Preparation for Mackerel Refugia Management at Peam Krasob, Koh Kong Province
Abstract
Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on Action Plan Preparation for Mackerel Refugia Management was conducted by Fisheries Administration collaborating in Koh Kong Province on 27-28 October 2020 with 25 attendees from FiA. The propose of this meeting is to brainstorm for action plan for Mackerel Refugia Management which is based on management’s goal. The goal aim at ensuring sustainable use and management of mackerel resources contributing to enchantment local livelihood. Moreover, (6) six objectives have been set during this meeting. These objectives are (1) to create and process an effective management mechanism; (2 to strengthen the law enforcement to crack down illegal fishing of mackerel during closed season; (3) to raise a public awareness on threats to mackerel and its habitats and to promote the public participation in the conservation action; (4) to strengthen doing a research, monitoring fish stock, catching, spawning season, migration, and fishing gear, and find a measure to reduce fishing pressure on mackerel stock; (5) to protect and restore the healthy ecology to ensure mackerel's spawning habitat; and (6) to strengthen the collaboration of both nation and trans-boundary through sharing the information of mackerel stock and protection at regional and international level.
