The initiative to combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing is a strategic effort to address threats against fisheries sustainability, governance, and food security in Southeast Asia. Recognizing that IUU fishing erodes regional stability, the project emphasizes the necessity of regional cooperation and the adoption of advanced Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) technologies.

In alignment with Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, this collaborative aims to promote regional dialogue, capacity development, and regional collaboration to address these challenges. The project will engage fisheries officials from ASEAN Member States (AMSs) and technical experts to build a stronger foundation for regional cooperation on MCS. By doing so, it contributes to more sustainable fisheries management and the effective mitigation of IUU fishing impacts across the region.

The participating countries include the ASEAN Member States (AMSs). The project is hosted and executed by the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) in partnership with technical experts and regional stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of MCS strategies.

This project is made possible through the funding support of the Government of Canada, reflecting a shared commitment to maritime security and sustainable development under the Indo-Pacific Strategy.
