The Regional Workshop on Information Exchange on Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) for Combating IUU Fishing in Southeast Asia was held in Bangkok from 24 to 26 February 2026. Organized by the SEAFDEC Training Department in collaboration with GIZ, the event adopted a hybrid format to engage representatives from ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste, and various regional networks. The workshop functioned as a strategic platform to enhance regional transparency and coordination, focusing on the exchange of knowledge and lessons learned regarding MCS systems.

Key outcomes included an updated regional understanding of current MCS practices and the improvement of collective capacity to address illegal fishing activities. Participants worked to enhance mechanisms for sharing best practices and to strengthen the communication channels within the MCS network. By fostering a shared regional understanding of MCS implementation, the workshop established a stronger foundation for future collaborative actions. Ultimately, these efforts aim to ensure the long-term sustainability of fisheries resources through more effective and unified enforcement across Southeast Asia.
