Overview of Fishing Activities In the Pakklong Sub-district Coastal Area, Pathew District, Chumphon Province, from March 2002 to February 2003
Abstract
This investigation on providing fundamental information of fishing activities in Pakklong Sub-district was carried out from march 2002 to February 2003. It was found that the number of fishing types, which belong to local fisherman, was 27 types. Most of fishing gears were small-scale fishing. There were 4 main types of fishing gear, which include squid cast net, squid trap, crab gill net and collapsible crab trap. In defining fishing ground, it was considered that Thum Thong bay, Thung Maha bay and Lang Island were particularly favored for fishing operation. The fundamental problem caused impeding coastal zone fisheries management consisted of fishing conflict, illegal fishing marine zoning. To greatly increase the likelihood of achievement of coastal zone fisheries management, each problem should be address as soon as possible.
