dc.description.abstractThis compilation of the most important fishing gears and methods commonly used in Brunei Darussalam is the fifth volume in the Monograph Series, "Fishing Gears and Methods in Southeast Asia" with the initiative of SEAFDEC/Training Department. The aim is for better understanding of the existence structure of marine fishing gears and fishing techniques in Brunei Darussalam. The survey was started in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries of Brunei Darussalam since 2004.The study was a part of ASEAN- SEAFDEC program on "Responsible Fisheries Technology and Practices" funded by Government of JAPAN through the trust fund program in fisheries. This volume contains description of 48 types of marine fishing gears presently employed in the marine fisheries of Brunei Darussalam. Fishing methods of tenth important groups namely surrounding nets, seine nets, trawls, lift nets, falling gears, gill nets, traps, scoop nets, hook and lines and miscellaneous gears are also described. It is hoped that this book can serve as a useful reference for those who are interested in marine fisheries in Brunei Darussalam.en
