Emerging Requirements for Trade in Fish and Fisheries Products
Abstract
Dramatic changes during the past decade relevant to trade of fish and fisheries products: increasing requirements to guarantee good quality, healthy products and other aspects that could indicate that the product is safe for human consumption, growing demands to ensure and certify that all steps of production and production methods are in line with acceptable environmental standards and that the production can be sustained including the important habitats, global and regional initiatives and efforts to combat IUU fishing through,-the development of legally-binding agreement on Port State Measures by FAO, -the EC Regulation to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate IUU Fishing indication that fishery products could only be imported to the EU when accompanied by a catch certificate.
